Tell us a little about Skin by Shelly and what inspired you to start your business.

“Skin by Shelly is an esthetics boutique located in downtown Port Washington that specializes in facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels and LED light therapy facial treatments.

My goal for each client is simple; results and relaxation.  I have worked for several high end spas and boutiques over the past 8 years. I absolutely love what I do, and after much consideration, I decided to open my own business.

I really wanted the autonomy to create an environment and client experience that was uniquely my own. This includes the products I use and sell, as well as the ability to provide competitive pricing and client loyalty perks!”

Why should brides be thinking about skincare before their wedding day?

“The reason it’s important for brides to start thinking about skincare before their wedding day is simple – It’s YOUR day. It’s a day that is really all about you! It’s a time in your life that will be captured on camera for all to see and admire. Your skin should be radiantly glowing!”

When should a bride start a skincare routine or facial regimen before her wedding?

“The timeline to begin your skin care routine/regime is very unique to each bride. It depends mostly on what your skin care goals are. It’s never too soon to begin taking care of your skin. I offer free consultations to help map out a routine to help you prepare for the big day.”

What are the biggest skincare mistakes you see brides make leading up to their wedding?

“This one is really important, the biggest mistake I see brides make is buying the wrong skin care products for their skin type. There are so many influencers and sales people out there promoting products, it’s overwhelming – which many times results in investing in the wrong skin care.”

What facial treatments are most popular among brides?

“The most popular facial treatment for brides are regular facials several months or weeks prior to their wedding date. It’s also extremely popular to get a dermaplaning facial the week of the actual wedding day.”

What facial treatments are most popular among brides?

“Facials help a bride feel more confident on their wedding day because your skin will be at its very best. Facials are so important for several reasons; acne prevention, deeply cleanses skin, hydrates the skin, removes dead skin cells, relaxes you and increases collagen production!”

What advice do you have for brides dealing with acne, redness, dryness, or other skin concerns before their wedding?

“A bride that is concerned about acne, redness or dryness should look for products that address those specific issues. Salicylic acid is great for acne, niacinamides help redness and hyaluronic acid is great to treat dryness.”

Beyond the physical benefits, how can facials and skincare support self-care during the wedding planning process?

“Facials are great self care because they are so relaxing! The specific massage techniques used during a facial increase blood flow and boost lymphatic drainage which reduces puffiness, relieves muscle tension and enhances absorption of serums and moisturizers for a brighter, healthier complexion.”

What does a typical bridal skincare timeline look like in the months leading up to the wedding?

“The typical skin care treatment timeline is to begin professional treatments approximately 12-16 weeks from your wedding day. Skin cells turn over about every 4 weeks. This allows for about three to four professional treatments before the big day.”

Are there any treatments or products brides should avoid too close to their wedding day?

“It’s advisable to avoid any aggressive advanced treatments too close to your wedding day. Things such as chemical peels require several days for ‘healing’ post treatment. Any advanced exfoliation generally requires several days of downtime.”

What is one skincare tip every bride should know before walking down the aisle?

“One skin care tip before walking down the aisle is to focus on hydration. Make sure you drink enough water – it’s essential for glowing and radiant skin!”

Do you offer any services or packages specifically for brides or bridal parties?

“Skin by Shelly offers highly customized bridal packages. Every bride is unique and I love planning out a skin care treatment timeline that will result in healthy, beautiful and luminous skin for your big day!”
