“DIY projects can be super fun, but don’t assume they’re always cheaper—sometimes buying pre-made is just as budget-friendly (and way less stressful!). Even if you’re the ultimate planner, having a day-of coordinator is a game changer. They’ll handle all the moving parts while you focus on what really matters—getting married! Take the time to read vendor reviews. It’s the best way to get a feel for what to expect and avoid any unpleasant surprises. Connect with other brides! Groups like Wisconsin Brides on Facebook are full of advice, support, and even great deals. Speaking of deals, check out Facebook Marketplace for wedding decor. You’d be surprised how many people sell their entire wedding setup for a fraction of the cost. And here’s a money-saving hack: buying napkins can actually be cheaper than renting them. Who knew, right?”
“My biggest advice is that there are things worth spending a lot of money on and some things that aren’t. The things we prioritized in our budget were photographer (photos last forever), and food (we weren’t about to serve lame food at our wedding.) and things we felt were ok to spend less on were party favors, table décor, bridesmaids dresses (I gave mine a color and had them pick a dress they’d wear again in that color scheme). We wanted to go to Italy for our honeymoon so we cut a lot of unnecessary things out of our wedding budget and kept things small and simple.
The thing I REGRET is not prioritizing my wedding dress and not incorporating my dog into the wedding. We got married at a restaurant so my dog couldn’t have come anyway, but I’ve seen people put their dogs on napkins, name a drink after them, etc. And then I also tried to play it super frugal and bought a forgettable white dress for my wedding dress and now I feel like I missed a rite of passage or a really special moment.”
“What I wish I would’ve known about wedding planning is how hard it would be handle everyone’s opinions. As a eldest daughter and people pleaser, that was really hard for me. We had a microwedding and there were important people in our lives who had a hard time with the fact that people THEY wanted to be there wouldn’t be. My husband was the best person to work through it with, so the best advice I would give is remember that you and your spouse-to-be are a team. Lean on each other. You two know what’s best for you. We still look back on our day and are so happy we did it the way we wanted to. Our vision came through in the end and people still tell us that they loved the way we did our wedding!”
